Manhunt for men who killed police officer
The officer was shot in the upper body and died on the scene.
Police are still looking for three men who killed a police officer in Atteridgeville on Friday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the officer was killed outside his house.
“The 46-year-old warrant officer was attacked by three unknown men wearing balaclavas and who demanded his vehicle,” he said.
“In the ensuing struggle to take the vehicle, the police officer was shot and killed and the suspects took his vehicle, a new VW Golf 6, and drove away.”
Dlamini said the officer was shot in the upper body and died on the scene.
Dlamini has urged the public to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600-10111 if they had any information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of the robbers.
“The suspects are considered to be armed and dangerous and members of the public are warned not to confront them. Police are also following several leads to arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
Dlamini said police also recovered 15 illegal firearms during crime prevention operations over the weekend.
“Twenty-one suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, pointing of a firearm, attempted murder and assault. They were arrested in Actonville, Cleveland, Daveyton, Dobsonville, Elsburg, Kliptown, Mamelodi and Primrose.”
