A Pretorian psychologist has laid a charge of sexual assault against a teacher in the city.
Antoinette Human said she did so after discovering that the victim, a teenager boy, had been touched inappropriately by the male teacher.
This apparently happened more than once.
Human, an educational psychologist, was treating the boy after his mother found out that he had been secretly cutting himself.
After establishing the cause of this conduct, Human decided to lay a criminal charge.
The boy had since dropped out of school.
Human said she drove to the Pretoria North police station on 30 August to lay a charge.
“The officer on duty told me that the matter would be referred to Hercules because the school in question was in that region,” Human said.
The teacher apparently continued working at the school for some time after the charge was laid.
He was only suspended in the week of 24 October, a trustworthy source told Rekord.
Rekord made an effort to get comment from the school concerned, but was told: “We will not deliver any comments relating to this matter. It has been referred to the department of education.”
Comment from the Gauteng department of education was still being awaited at the time of going to print.
Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango acknowledged receipt of a Rekord inquiry, but he is still to confirm the charge.
