Three men in possession of a stolen car used during a house robbery were arrested after a high-speed chase in Centurion on Thursday.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the three men were arrested in Highveld.
“Wierdabrug police, together with the local security and CPF members, were conducting a special operation in the area when they received information regarding a white Hyundai that was involved in a housebreaking.”
Miller said the officers spotted the vehicle and a chase ensued.
“An extremely volatile high-speed chase began. Unfortunately, the suspects managed to evade Wierdabrug community officers’ efforts to stop them.”
Miller said the Lyttelton Tracing Team spotted the vehicle while on a routine patrol of the area.
“The team was surprised by a white vehicle passing their unmarked police vehicle at an incredibly high speed and the members immediately gave chase.”
He said the perpetrators pulled into a shopping centre and attempted to run away.
“By now the tracing team members realized that it was the very same vehicle and suspects that Wierdabrug police and CPFs had been chasing.”
The tracing team managed to apprehend the trio who were found in possession of the Hyundai Veloster, which had been reported stolen in August.
“Jewellery, a safe that is believed to contain more jewellery, an undisclosed amount of cash, motor bike jackets and housebreaking tools were found inside the car.”
Miller said the three men would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon and detectives would investigate if the men were linked to other cases in and around the area.
