Three men have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for robbery and theft of a motor vehicle in the east of Pretoria.
The men were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Martin Lebea (35), Adam Sello Baloyi (39) and Sonnyboy Mbambo (41), from Tembisa, were sentenced in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The men robbed a house in Perseus Avenue, Waterkloof Ridge on 28 December 2012 just before midnight.
Brooklyn police spokesperson Colette Weilbach said the men overpowered a 41-year-old man when he opened the front door to let his dogs out.
“The robbers were armed and tied the man and two others up with cable ties. They ransacked the house and loaded all the stolen items into the owner of the house’s vehicle and fled.”
Weilbach said the vehicle was later recovered in Tembisa.
She said the men were arrested within two days of the attack and appeared in court for the first time on 31 December 2012.
“Thorough and meticulous investigation conducted by a Brooklyn police investigating officer has ensured that three armed robbers will spend a very long time behind bars for a house robbery they committed.”
She said Brooklyn police station commander Brigadier Kushie Nair applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Frank Radue, and said she knew it took sleepless nights and long hours of work and commitment to secure the conviction.
