Baby found in open field
Police are searching for the family of an abandoned baby girl.
Authorities are still mystified about a newborn baby found abandoned in an open veld in Nellmapius three months ago.
Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said there was no new information on the child currently in the care of a social worker.
The newborn baby girl was found by residents next to Alwyn Road.
“The naked newborn baby was wrapped in a sheet when they found her around 07:50 on 14 August,” he said.
“The baby was taken to the Mamelodi hospital, where she was treated for five days.”
Breedt said the baby was taken from the hospital by a social worker who placed her in a safety home, where she was now being care for.
The safety home is a registered non-profit organisation in the Moot.
Owner of the safety home, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the baby had been with her for three months.
“I hope we can work together and find the baby’s mother,” she said.
Breedt said nothing was reported to the police about a missing child in the area where the baby was found.
“We ask residents to come forward with any information that could lead to reuniting the baby with her mother or her family,” Breedt said.
“If you know about anyone in the Nellmapius area who was recently pregnant and now without a child, please come forward.”
