The new Wierdabrug Police Station commander has promised to work closely with his residents to secure their safety.
Colonel Sam Makama (53), transferred from the Boksburg North Police Station, was speaking at the Mall at Reds in Centurion where he met local security firms and members of the CPF to discuss his plan for high police visibility during the festive season
And within a few days of assuming control, Makama has established a new unit for administrative employees to work within the community to ensure more visibility for the police.
Makama said high visibility for uniformed officers and roadblocks were his priority.
He told the crime prevention units which had gathered at the Mall on Friday, that he was tough on crime and even tougher on discipline.
He said this festive season, the community needed to know that the police, their security partners and the CPF would do all they would to make them feel safe.
“My station and all its members will be working outside. We are on high alert,” Makama said.
CPF sector 3 deputy chairperson, André Vorster said that it was now the turn of the CPF to help the police.
“The communities have been waiting very long for an opportunity like this, to show their support. We are all here to make a difference,” Vorster said.
Superintendent George Erasmus of Tswhane metro police commended Makama for his great initiative.
“This is a good way to work together to bring crime down in the area,” Erasmus said.
