With Christmas around the corner, the spate of armed robberies in Soshanguve, especially at shopping centres, has increased.
Moments after a foiled cash-in-transit heist at Soshanguve Plaza on Monday, a Tekkie Town employee was robbed while walking to the bank to deposit the store’s daily takings.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said two armed men accosted the employee on his way to Standard Bank.
“The men held him up at gunpoint and took the money bag containing R23 805. They ran to a red Ford Fiesta with no registration number and sped off,” said Maluleka.
Police were immediately alerted and the car was later recovered at Block UU, Soshanguve.
“The suspects are still at large. Two firearms and a magazine, a CV and a traffic warden jacket were found in the vehicle.”
Maluleka said police were investigating, and that there had been at least eight attacks at various malls in the past three weeks in which cellphone outlets were targeted.
