A G4S Security guard who put his life at risk to foil a cash-in-transit heist attempt in Soshanguve.
According to spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka, the guard was sitting in the vehicle, when five robbers pounced on his colleague who had just collected money from a Pick n Pay.
He said the men disarmed the colleague before taking the cash to their getaway car, a charcoal Audi A4.
“The guard jumped into action and followed the robbers at high speed,” said Maluleka.
The chase ended at the Mashamaite intersection where the cash van rammed into the back of the Audi forcing it to stop.
“The robbers then jumped out but two immediately hijacked a Toyota Hilux they found at the intersection and fled leaving the cash behind. The other three escaped on foot,” said Maluleka.
Police recovered the cash and the pistol from the Audi.
“The hijacked car was later found abandoned in block DD Soshanguve,” said Maluleka.
A case of cash-in-transit robbery is being investigated and the owner of the Toyota Hilux withdrew hijacking case after his vehicle was found.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
