Missing taxi driver’s car found

He is the second taxi driver to be reported missing recently.

A missing Winterveldt taxi driver’s car has been found torched.

Sipho Sydney Yilo (35) was last seen on Friday 4 November when he picked up passengers from Mabopane train station to Winterveldt.

“He did not take the taxi back to his employer as he normally does. His employer went to his home but did not find him,” said police spokesperson Captain Samuel Sebola.

Yilo’s father, Thomas, filed a missing person’s report at the Loate police station the next day.

“The vehicle, a white Toyota Venture with registration number DD 49 FR GP, was later found burned at Kromkuil,” said Sebola.

Anyone with the information is asked to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Phatshwane on 073-062-1018 or 012-797-7800.

Yilo is the second taxi operator to be reported missing recently.

Andries Katlego Rampodi (22) was reported missing on 10 June while driving a white Toyota Condor, which he used as a taxi.

Rampodi, of Sofasonke, Klipgat, was wearing blue jeans, black All Star tekkies, a blue stripped Adidas T-shirt and a brown Uzzi jacket.

“he drove the Mabopane to Ga-Rankuwa route. The Condor was recovered by the police in Randburg on Tuesday [14 June],” said police.

Police appealed to anyone with information to contact the investigating officer Constable Motaung on 012-797-800.

Police believe Rampodi may have been hijacked and abducted.

“It is not clear if he was killed. He is nowhere to be found.”
