UPDATE: Missing taxi driver found dead

The body was positively identified as that of Sipho Sydney Yilo who was reported missing at Loate police station on 5 November.

A Winterveldt taxi driver has been found dead after he went missing a week ago.

Sipho Sydney Yilo’s (35) body was discovered by a passerby near Tswaing cultural centre in Winterveldt on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the passerby became curious when he was overwhelmed by a terrible smell.

“He went to investigate, and found the body,” said police.

Police spokesperson Captain Samuel Sebola said the body was identified as that of Sipho Sydney Yilo, who was reported missing at Loate police station a day after he went missing.

Yilo was last seen picking up passengers from Mabopane train station to take them to Winterveldt.

“He did not take the taxi back to his employer as usual. His employer went to his home but did not find him,” said Sebola.

Yilo was the second taxi driver found dead in the area this year after he was reported missing.

Andries Katlego Rampodi (22) disappeared on 10 June while driving a white Toyota Condor, which he used as a taxi.

“He drove the Mabopane to Ga-Rankuwa route. The Condor was recovered by the police in Randburg on Tuesday [14 June],” said police.

Rampodi’s car was found burnt and abandoned.

Police believe Rampodi may have been hijacked and abducted.
