Twins arrested for the murder and house robbery of an elderly woman were set to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for their bail hearing.
The twins, Francis and Fortune McDonald (in their early 20’s), remained in custody shortly after their first court appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, awaiting their bail application with a third suspect released.
A 76-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Makenna Avenue, Eersterust three weeks ago.

Police spokesman Sergeant Sam Shibambo said three people were initially arrested for the robbery and murder of the woman.
He said investigations led police to believe the third suspect was not linked to the murder and robbery.
“The twins are attending court tomorrow [Thursday] for their bail application and are facing a murder and robbery charge.”

He said the trio were arrested on the same day after the elderly woman who lived alone was attacked.
“The victim was found with several wounds on her upper body. Her burglar door was forced open, with several household electronic equipment stolen from the house.”
Shibambo said a manhunt was immediately started after the body was found on 27 October.
“The two brothers who live several houses away were arrested shortly after, alongside the then linked third accomplice.”

He said preliminary investigations at the elderly woman’s house led to the twin’s arrest.
A neighbour who asked not to be named claimed the duo stabbed the woman numerous times during the day and later in the evening slit her throat when they went back for more appliances.
Police would not comment further on the matter.
