Sport highlights 18-20 November

Apart from the fact that the Springboks will be in action on Saturday against Italy, this weekend's major sporting attraction in Pretoria is the football match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaiser Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld.

Springbok supporters are hoping that Allister Coetzee’s team will get back on track this weekend against Italy.

For all other sports fans, there is an array of other sporting events to look forward to this weekend.

Rugby

After the draw against the Barbarians and last week’s disastrous defeat against England, the Springboks desperately need a victory. They play against Italy on Saturday and even though they should win this game at a canter, they will be under great pressure. The game starts at 15:00 (SA time).

Cricket

After South Africa clinched the current test series against Australia this week, they will now go for the whitewash in the third and final test next week. The action on the Adelaide Oval will start next week Thursday.

In the meantime, cricket fans can look forward to local action in the national T20 challenge. The Titans will be in action twice this weekend.

First they take on the Knights in Benoni on Friday. The action starts at 18:00.

On Sunday, they travel to Bloemfontein to play against the Dolphins at 10:00 on a day with double action. The home team (Knights) will play the Warriors on the same field later.

Athletics

The annual Tom Jenkins challenge, which includes a notorious climb up Meintjieskop, takes place this Saturday. The race starts and ends on the lawns of the Union Buildings and kicks off with the chiming of the Union Buildings clock tower.

The event includes a 21,1km half marathon, a 10km road race and a 5km fun run.

The first two races start at 06:30 and the fun run will start at 06:40. The event is organised by the Arcadia athletics club. For more information, contact Daan du Toit on 082-572-4169.

Football

Action in the Premier Soccer League resumes this weekend after a few weeks of other obligations for clubs and players. Both Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United will be in action on Saturday.

Sundowns play against Kaiser Chiefs in a game that will get widespread attention. This action starts at 15:30.

SuperSport United travel to Polokwane to play against Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. This game will also start at 15:00.
