Proteas captain Faf du Plessis has been found guilty of ball tampering, Cricket SA (CSA) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, television footage showed Du Plessis applying an artificial substance to the ball during the second Test in Hobart, Australia.
As a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) charged him with ball tampering – to which he pleaded not guilty.
The CSA have however, confirmed that the Pretoria-born batsman was found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
“Faf has been found guilty of breaching Article 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct following a hearing before Andy Pycroft, of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees in Adelaide,” said the CSA.
Du Plessis was fined 100 percent of his match fee and three demerit points were added to his disciplinary record.

Despite the charge, Du Plessis can still play in the third Test in Adelaide on Thursday.
In 2014, Proteas fast bowler Vernon Philander was fined and charged 75 percent of his match fee for ball tampering in a Test match against Sri Lanka.
