Robber killed during house burglary

“When security officers arrived at the house they were confronted by the two suspects, who opened fire on them.”

A robber was shot and killed during a burglary at a home in Laudium, Pretoria West, on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said two armed men attempted to rob a family around 21:30 in 5th Avenue.

“It is alleged that the two men gained access to the house and started making threats to the family,” said Moloto.

“The suspects demanded cash and jewellery.”

Moloto said one of the family members managed to press the panic button and local security responded.

“When security officers arrived at the house they were confronted by the two suspects, who opened fire on them.”

Moloto said the guards returned fire.

One man was killed and the other was arrested, he said.

“[The men were found in possession of] Jewellery, an unlicensed firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash,” said Moloto.

A charge of robbery was laid at the Laudium police station.

Moloto said the robber would appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon.
