NATIONAL NEWS: Former police colonel dies in fatal accident
He was much loved and well respected.
A 52-year-old biker who was left in a critical condition after his motorcycle crashed into an SUV on the R563 Hekpoort road died in hospital soon after his arrival.
The biker was later identified as Fanie van der Watt, a former colonel at the Sandton Police.
Van der Watt was traveling on the R563 on his motorcycle near the Cradle of Humankind on Sunday 15 January, when an SUV allegedly swerved in front of him, causing a T-bone collision. ER24 paramedics were called to the scene and upon arrival found him lying on the road. He had sustained numerous critical injuries and was stabilised by the paramedics. He was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to the injuries shortly after arrival.
