UPDATE: Faerie Glen murder victim identified

No arrests have been made after a 47-year-old man was shot and killed during a robbery at his home in Faerie Glen on Thursday.

The man who was shot and killed during an attempted house robbery on Thursday has been identified.

Ian Rossouw (47) was killed trying to protect his wife during a robbery at their home in Faerie Glen.

Garsfontein Police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said Rossouw’s wife screamed for help when she saw four men had gained entrance to their home around 22:30.

“Her husband came running down the stairs to assist,” said Jones.

“Following a confrontation between him and the suspects, the owner was shot in the upper and lower body.”

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said when paramedics arrived on the scene, they found Rossouw lying in his yard.

He was declared dead on the scene.

Jones said Rossouw had three children aged 18, 15 and 13.

Jones on Saturday confirmed there were no new developments in the case and police were still looking for the robbers.
