The Kolonnade shopping centre in the north of Pretoria has confirmed a robbery that took place there at the weekend.

Centre management’s Lucrutia De Klerk said that on Sunday, armed men had robbed a Telkom store of electronic equipment.
“Around 09:46, an employee of Telkom reported to the security control room that the store had been robbed by three armed suspects,” she said.
“Security contract manager, Gert Nel, was called to the scene to investigate.”
De Klerk said the Telkom employees reported that the robbers had pretended to be customers.
“One sat on a bench among shoppers near the store while two walked towards the store pushing a trolley,” she explained.
“At 09:41, the two entered the store and were followed by the one who had been sitting.”

Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk told Rekord earlier that the robbers did not draw or point firearms at the employees, but did expose their guns to show they were armed.
“They demanded that all employees proceed to the storeroom/office at the back of the store,” said De Klerk.
“They ordered the manager to open the safe but a time delay in opening the lock prevented them from unlocking the safe.”
De Klerk said approximately 15 Wi-Fi routers and one laptop were placed in bags inside the robbers’ trolley before they left the store.
“They exited the store at 09:43 and proceeded to walk to the centre’s entrance 1 to the getaway vehicle, a silver/gold Mercedes Benz parked in a parking bay reserved for the disabled,” she said.
Van Dyk told Rekord the robbers drove away slowly as if not to arouse suspicion.
Police are investigating.
