The police are investigating a recent car hijacking in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said a 59-year old man and his workers were approached by two unknown men.
“They threatened them with a firearm before asking them to disembark the bakkie,” Zwane said.
“It’s alleged that the incident took place in Masupye Street, where a white VVT Toyota bakkie with registration number SYF 881 GP valued at R120 000 was forcefully taken.”
According to Zwane, the alleged hijacking happened at approximately 17:10.
“Inside the bakkie was a Samsung double door fridge worth R15 000, a Bosch front loader machine worth R6 000, a Samsung top loader washing machine worth R6 000 and a LG top loader washing machine worth R6 000,” Zwane said.
No arrest has been made and the investigation continues.

“We appeal to the community to come forth with any information that may lead to the identification and arrests of these suspects by calling the Atteridgeville police on 012-373-2400 or Crime Stop on 086-001-0111.”
The police also provided the following anti-hijacking tips:
-Always keep the doors locked.
-Keep your windows closed, or only a few millimetres open.
-Leave enough manoeuvring space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
-If you are being followed or harassed by another vehicle, drive to the nearest police station, petrol station or any other busy public space. Park as close as you can to the building and go inside, phone the police from there.
-Never pick up hitchhikers.
– Park your vehicle in a busy well-lit area at night.
– Always lock valuables, handbags and other parcels in the boot when on the road to eliminate smash and grab crimes.
– Never lock valuables in the boot after parking, you don’t know who might be watching you. Rather do that before you leave home.
– When approaching your vehicle, ensure nobody is already hiding in your vehicle.
– When a remote control to lock your vehicle, take the time to physically check if the doors did lock in case someone is targetting your vehicle for theft using a remote control signal jamming device .

– Where possible, use different routes to and from home.
– Be vigilant at stop streets, robots and intersections.
– If involved in a minor bumper-bashing where there are no injuries and you feel unsafe, drive to the nearest police station immediately or a public area and report the accident to the police from there.
– Be extra vigilant in underground parking areas.
– Have your car key in hand ready before you get to the parking lot where your vehicle is – digging into your bag for the key when you are already standing by your vehicle is a distraction you don’t need.
– If you encounter engine problems, raise the bonnet and stay inside the car. If stranger approaches you, let them call for help. Do not leave the safety of your vehicle.
– Never drink and drive, SAPS and metro services have a zero tolerance for drunk driving.
– Do not use your cell phone while driving, except if you have a hands free kit.
-Never text and drive.
-Do not leave children or animals unattended in a car.
