Quick action by members of the community and the police prevented a house robbery on Wednesday in the west of Pretoria.
According to CPF spokesperson, Thesigan Pillay, CPF members and police assistance prevented the house robbery in Danville Ext 5.
“The scourge of crime was again rearing its ugly head, but after pressure by CPF to force better policing in our area, a positive result was immediately evident with the prevention of a house robbery and the arrest of a criminal,” Pillay said.
Pillay said that the suspect was armed.

Alert members of the community called the CPF when they saw suspicious activity around the house and police were called. A man was arrested.
“We take note of the long awaited intervention of the police and encourage this approach of high visibility policing and effective investigation of crimes. Our special thanks go to community members, the police and the CPF of sector two for keeping us safe.”
Tshwane west cluster police spokesperson, Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said that robberies and burglaries were on the rise in all policing areas.
Zwane warned residents against leaving their houses unlocked and urged them to invest in an alarm system.
“To those who already have an alarm system, they must remember to always activate them,” Zwane said.
He also said that windows must remain closed when there is no one at home.

“Residents must always avoid leaving valuables where they’re easily accessible, for example, near an open window,” Zwane said.
Zwane also said that communication was essential.
“Communicate with your neighbours, and ask them to keep an eye on your property during your absence,” he said.
The police advises that residents should also look at security on the outside.
“Always ensure that your house has sufficient lighting outside, as criminals prefer to work in darkness,” they said.
He also says that residents should avoid leaving tools outside the house.
“In most cases those tools that are left outside are used to break into the houses and some tools left outside the house tempt criminals, for example, garden equipment,” he said.

Zwane urges residents to join or work with community structures such as the CPF and community patrollers.
“Always have a police number handy and always have your community structures numbers handy in case of an emergency,” he said.
He also says that residents should notify their local police should it be that their house will be left unattended for several days.
The police will increase visibility in that area.
Zwane said residents should notify the police of any suspicious incidents in the area.
