A massive anti-crime and clean-up operation took place in Centurion where more than 20kg of dagga was recovered.
The operation started at 8:00 on Thursday on a new property acquired by Atterbury Properties in Bayview.
Security firms, police and sector policing forums took to Bayview to rid the area of trespassing vagrants.
“The area has been a hot spot for various crimes such as smash and grabs, cyclist attacks and armed robberies,” said spokersperson for Lyttelton police, Captain Dave Miller.
“Perpetrators would often hide from police in the Bayview patch of land.”

Miller said it was a successful operation, and regular patrols would be conducted after 20kg of dagga was found in buckets hidden in the bushes.
“Our dedicated members searched the area and identified squatters in make–shift tents. No one was arrested,” he said.

“We instructed the vagrants that this was now private property and they were trespassing.”

“Thankfully the vagrants co-operated and peacefully made their way.”
“We also found items like bags and licences under a bridge near the Bayview veld, and we believe these were stolen,” said Miller.

Involved security firms, Hi-Risk, Bull, ADT, PRSS and Fidelity were lauded for their efforts and Miller said he hoped police could count on their support again in future operations.
