The fight against the high rate of crime in Eldoraigne, Centurion, is going high tech.
A project is in the pipeline to install cameras in neighbourhoods to keep a watchful eye.
The brainchild of local attorney Ann Geyer, the project will see residents joining hands with the Tshwane metro in the fight against crime.

Geyer said what made the project interesting was that the technology that would be used, would be able to detect suspicious behaviour and alert the operating control centre.
“I’ve had the idea since 2007 but never executed a plan of action.”
Geyer said crime was very high in the area and some of the incidents were undocumented because perpetrators were never caught.

“The security camera project would play a pivotal role in crime prevention.”
She said a few community meetings were held regarding the project and more than 200 residents in Eldoraigne had shown interest.
“We are working with the metro as it is important to have local government involved in crime prevention,” she said of the plan to work with ward councillor, Cindy Billson.
Geyer said plans to proceed with the project were in the final stages.
