Woman robbed at Brooklyn centre

A woman, her father-in-law and her nine-month-old baby have been held at gunpoint during a robbery in Brooklyn in broad daylight.

The 38-year-old women, who asked not to be named, said she was on her way home from the Brooklyn Surgical Centre around 13:00 on Monday.

She works as a medical representative at the centre.

The woman, her father-in-law (56) and her son walked to her parked car near the entrance to the centre.

“We got to the vehicle and my father-in-law was putting my son in his safety car seat when two armed men came from behind and pointed guns at our heads,” said the woman.

The assailants jumped from another car that had arrived on the scene.

“At this point we thought we were being hijacked and my father told the armed men that they could have the car if they let us go,” said the woman.

“The men did not want the car but one of them said he wanted my ring, ordering me: ‘Take off your ring, give me your ring.’ The men fled with the ring.”

The woman called for help and the matter was reported to the Brooklyn police.

Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach confirmed the attack and said the men fled in a Ford Focus with an unconfirmed colour.

“We are investigating a robbery with a firearm.”

Weilbach confirmed the men fled with the woman’s ring. No arrests had been made by Saturday.

The woman warned people visiting the centre to be wary.

“This centre deals a lot with women and I urge them to be careful and to ask to be accompanied to the parking area,” she said.

“We are still traumatised and have reason to believe the police have a lead about a gang.”

Rekord called the surgical centre for help, but and a one of the nurses said ADT was responding to enquiries of this nature.

ADT undertook to look into the matter and provide more details later.
