A total of 37 people will appear in court next week for offences they committed at the weekend in the Tshwane central policing cluster.
Police spokesperson Colette Weilbach said high police visibility operations at the weekend sought to disrupt and prevent criminal activity.
“Additional police officers were deployed to complement normal day-to-day policing,” Weilbach said.
“Neighbouring police stations are conducting cross-border operations which resulted in the arrests made for contact, property and drug-related crimes.”

She said several police stations formed part of the central cluster –: Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Sunnyside, Silverton, Pretoria Moot and Villieria..
“Three arrests were made for assault, one for rape, one for housebreaking, three for possession of suspected stolen goods and one for possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
Three people were arrested in Lyttelton for possession of car jamming devices.
Weilbach advised motorists not to assume their vehicles were locked when a remote control device was used.

“Doors must be physically checked before moving away from a vehicle,” she said.
“The police work hard to rid the streets of drugs and arrested six suspects for drug-related offences. Seven people were caught for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
All those arrested will appear in the Hatfield Community and Pretoria Magistrate’s courts on Monday.
“Communities are once again urged to report any suspicious persons and vehicles, especially ones without number plates, to the police immediately by phoning the 10111 emergency-number.”

“Information with regard to crime could be given to the police anonymously by phoning 086-001-0111 or by sending an SMS to 32211.”
Weilbach said victims not reporting crime distorted the true extent of crime.
“Police are strategising daily on how to prevent and fight crime. Not reporting crime hampers strategies to stop lawlessness.”
