Hammanskraal woman in court for killing kids
“She returned to Ramotse, Temba, two days later after learning that her children’s bodies had been found.”
A Hammanskraal accused of murdering her two children has appeared in court.
Kgomotso Makena (27) appeared in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court in Hammanskraal on Monday, two days after turning herself into the police.
Her case was postponed to Tuesday June 6, for bail application.
She was remanded in custody.

Makena, who had been wanted by the Temba police since her two children were found dead a fortnight ago, turned herself in on Sunday around 05:30.
“She allegedly killed her kids at the Stinkwater Mokone block,” said police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi.
“The kids were found dead on the bed by their father a week ago. Rat poison, which is believed to have been used to kill them, was found next to the bed.”
Moremi said the woman told the police she had also attempted to kill herself by taking the same poison.
“She poured it in the breakfast they all ate but was surprised that she survived so decided to run away to Bela-Bela, where she lived in the park.”
She then returned to Ramotse, Temba, two days later after learning that her children’s bodies had been found and that she was sought by the police.
“She heard the news on the radio and that she was the suspect. She went to her brother in Eersterust on Saturday night,” Moremi said.
“He told her that she was reported missing and that it would be better [for her] to hand herself to the police.”
Her brother and his family accompanied her to the Temba police station, where she was detained.
Last month another woman was accused of killing her two children in Walmansthal near Hammanskraal.
She appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court where she was freed on bail of R10 000 bail.
The 32-year-old Katlego Majane made her second appearance on 29 April.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Sarah Lesabane said Majane would be back in court on 22 June.
Majane, a Silverton resident, allegedly shot dead her two-year-old and six-year-old children on 17 April.
Lesabane said Majane had not yet explained what happened on the night her children were killed.
