Praise for East cops, guard after car break-in

“About 15 minutes after I reported the case, I was call back to the mall because my stolen bag had been recovered.”

A Pretoria woman has thanked the police and a security guard for their quick action that led to the recovery of her stolen handbag

Joanne Miller said the bag was stolen from her parked car at Woodlands Mall while she was running an errand.

“I had taken my ring off and placed it in my handbag which I then placed under the seat, out of sight.”

When she returned after about an hour she found the driver’s side window broken.

“I saw [noticed] my bag was stolen and immediately contacted mall security,” said Miller.

“They were brilliant. One of the security guards, Victor Mokonyane, stood by me all the time.

I must commend Mokonyane who was in touch with the Garsfontein police station throughout the hour.

He suggested that I go report the incident to the police station and called me twice on my way there.

About 15 minutes after I left the station, I received a call to come back as my bag had been found.”

Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said the police had made an arrest.

“The Woodlands security team together with the Garsfontein police must be commended for their action,” said mall general manager Malize Jacobs.

“We are pleased that Miller was satisfied with the swift actions of our security team and the SAPS.”

Woodlands mall recently invested in a new security system to keep ahead of industry standards to provide superior security services to its shoppers, she said.
