Five men arrested for robbing policeman

The five suspects were arrested on Thursday night following the attack on a police officer on Monday this week.

Five men were arrested after breaking into a policeman’s house in Hammanskraal, robbing him and his wife of his service pistol, money and cellphones.

Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the five broke into a constable’s house on Monday while he was asleep, and pointed him and his wife with a firearm.

“They tied their hands and demanded the firearm and money. They also took his service pistol and two cell phones then scene.”

The suspects, aged 32, 34, 36, 37 and 59, were arrested on Thursday night.

“The suspects were arrested at different locations around Hammanskraal. One was arrested at Mandela village, others in Kanana, Sekampaneng, Thabazimbi and Soshanguve,” said Moremi.

After arresting the first four, police were led to the house of the 59-year-old-man who was arrested after being allegedly being found in the possession of the policeman’s service pistol.

“He claimed he bought the firearm from the suspects for R2 500,” Moremi said.

Temba station commander Brigadier Page Dibetle applauded the police for sending a message to criminals that they can run but could not hide from the police.

The suspects will appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of house robbery.
