The Sinoville police have rescued a neglected dog.
“The dog, a Great Dane, was found locked up in a cage on a plot in the area on Tuesday,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.
“He had no food, water or proper bedding and seemed to have been sleeping in his own faeces.”
Van Dyk said the Great Dane Rescue SA association had alerted the police to the matter.
“They got a warrant to have the dog rescued.”

Van Dyk said when the police opened the cage, the dog was hesitant to exit its prison.
“The dog seemed terrified of people and we spent some time trying to coax him out.”
The dog, named Winston, eventually allowed Van Dyk to pick him up.
“I had to carry him to the police van.”

Van Dyk thanked the association and the volunteers who helped free Winston and take him to a place of safety.
“We’re glad to hear that Winston is doing well and enjoying his foster home.”
