Sosh family complain about slow progress of missing person’s case

A Soshanguve family is so concerned about finding their missing relative that they went straight to Fikile Mbalula’s office.

Mbalula is minister of police.

Jack Mothapo, of block K, has been missing since 29 January and nothing has been heard from him.

Jack’s brother, Mokhureng, said he was not pleased with how the police have handled his brother’s case.

“We requested Section 205 of the Criminal Procedure Act to trace by brother’s whereabouts and the calls made to his phone, the last tower he was in,” said Mokhureng.

“Up to now the police haven’t delivered on our request.”

He said the police were not helpful with the case until he contacted the police minister’s office.

“Things started to change after we contacted the minister of police, Fikile Mbalula.”

“We started seeing progress in my brother’s case.”

Tshwane metro ward 35 councillor Poppy Maseko said the lack of police visibility in communities was a concern.

“We want the police to take kidnapping cases seriously because when we check on the progress made by the police, we find many cases are dropped,” said Maseko.

Soshanguve police spokesperson Constable Zanele Mtsweni said the police were working hard to find the people reported missing.

“We are searching frantically for the missing people,” said Mtsweni.

“We have applied for Section 205 of the Criminal Procedure Act in order to gain access to cellphone records used by those people. I can say in due time we will see progress.”
