Three police reservists and five patrollers from the Pretoria Central police station appeared in court on Friday on charges of robbery and extortion.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola said the eight were arrested for allegedly robbing a doctor.
“It is alleged that a doctor was robbed of cash, cellphones and a wrist watch by reservist constables and volunteer patrollers last Tuesday,” Lamola said.

“The eight were granted of R500 bail each by the Pretoria specialised commercial crimes court and the case was postponed to 4 August.”
Lamola said the cellphone and watch were yet to be recovered.
Pretoria Central station commander Brigadier Rienette Pieterse said the three reservists faced suspension.
“They were served with notices of intention to suspend immediately after their arrest and a report was also sent to the MEC of community safety for the withdrawal of the five volunteers from the services,” Pieterse explained.
She thanked the community for reporting the incident to police and said that criminal behaviour would not be tolerated more especially by the police.
“We are not going to tolerate this kind of behaviour especially criminal activities from our members,” said Pieterse.
