More illegal dumpers were caught red-handed in the west of Pretoria last week.
DA ward councillor Elma Nel said the metro had had more than one encounter with the same company dumping illegally.
“A member of the Capital Park CPF saw a suspicious truck and decided to follow it,” Nel said.
“He followed it to Bremer Street where it became clear the plan was to dump the load garbage it was carrying.
“He caught the dumpers in the act and asked them to clean up.”

Nel said the company was fined with R2 500.
She said that illegal dumping remained a thorn in her side.
“Despite trying, people dump faster than the municipality can clean up,” she said.
“The metro police also plays a role in enforcing the bylaws but the biggest role is played by the community.”
She said residents needed to start taking responsibility.
“They [dumpers] have no right to turn our city into a dumpsite,” she said.
“You cannot complain about the state of our city when you have a hand in illegal dumping.”
Nel urged residents to contact her immediately on 082-293-4858 when they see illegal dumping.
“When illegal dumping gets reported, we can send out the metro police,” she said.
The following would stop illegal dumping:
– Do not dump illegally.
– Do not litter – think about what the kids see. Be an example.
– Report illegal dumping when you see it by dialing 012-358-7095/6.

– When reporting illegal dumping, get as much details as possible.
Get the name of the officer you speak to, take note of the date and time, ask for feedback and see the entire process through and speak to your community about the importance of keeping your environment clean.
“Please stay safe and do not confront anyone as this could lead to an unwanted situation,” Nel said.
“As councillor I will continue to engage officials to find solutions to our illegal dumping issues.
I will carry on until the problem is resolved.”
