The man accused of killing a woman in Sunnyside recently made his second appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
James Ngoasheng (30), who faces charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, was informed by the magistrate in the case last week that he would remain in custody for further investigation.
The prosecutor offered a slightly different take arguing the case had been postponed so the state could confirm Ngoasheng’s correct residential address.
The prosecutor argued the defence had said the accused resided in Sunnyside but the investigating officer, who was not in court during the hearing, had alleged that the claimed landlord had informed him the accused was planning to move out at the end of August.

For this reason, the prosecutor argued that it would not be appropriate for the accused to proceed with a bail application until his correct residential address was verified.
The defence argued for continuation as the investigating officer had confirmed the correct residential address in Limpopo.
But when the magistrate asked whether the accused resided in Limpopo or Sunnyside, the defence claimed the parents lived in Limpopo.
The prosecutor said the investigating officer had located the accused’s friend or brother in Centurion who could verify where the accused lived, and hence requested a postponement to 5 September while defence wanted 4 September.
The magistrate settled on 5 September, and remanded the accused in custody until then.

The prosecutor pleaded with the accused lawyer for help.
“I would like my colleague to give us the correct address,” he asked.
The accused then left the court.
About six relatives of the deceased wore t-shirts on which the “justice for Sophie” was written.
Her uncle, who spoke to Rekord on a condition of anonymity, said: “We are not yet ready to speak to the media at this stage and we are waiting for the law to take its course. We are still in shock and we would like to be given space to mourn in peace. We buried her on Saturday in Limpopo.”
Ngoasheng is accused of allegedly gunning down Ledwaba (26) outside a nightclub in Sunnyside.

“It is reported the suspect left a night club in the company of a male friend and two women before the quartet boarded a Mercedes-Benz Viano driven by the male friend,” said Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela at the time.
According to reports, Ledwaba also tried to get into the car.
“This led to an argument because the deceased was reportedly not welcome.”
Mavimbela said it was believed the accused then pulled out a handgun, shot Ledwaba in the head then escaped.
“With the police hot on his trail and after raid after raid at several places, the suspect had no option but to hand himself over at the Sunnyside police station.”
The bail hearing will continue next week.
