A man who has mastered the art of breaking the law and getting caught was sentenced to 12 months in jail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“Michael Strijdom (32) was arrested for possession of drugs during a stop-and-search operation in Sunnyside, in April,” said Captain Daniel Mavimbela adding this had been the fourteenth occasion the man had heard the words “guilty”.
“Before today’s sentencing, Strijom had been convicted of a drug related crime only once.”
His other convictions suggest he was a criminal who could not resist laying his hands on other people’s property.

“Strijdom has been found guilty of theft on no less than fourteen occasions,” said Mavimbela.
He said the previous sentences had mainly been with an option of paying a fine, and he had forked out to the state amounts ranging between R300 to R5 000.
“It was only on two occasions where Strijdom was handed down a direct imprisonment sentence,” Mavimbela added.
Strijdom was sentenced to three-year sentences in 2009 and 2013.
Mavimbela said whether it was possession of drugs, assault, robbery, hijacking or murder, Sunnyside was proving to have police officers capable and determined to rid the streets of criminals.
“Our aim is to create a safe environment for law abiding citizens,” he said.
