A 27-year-old man will spend the next 16 years behind bars after he was recently convicted of murder and theft.
Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the station welcomed the sentencing of Dumisane Khumalo.
“He was sentenced to 16 years and eight months’ imprisonment by Pretoria regional court after being convicted of murder and for two counts of theft.”
Msimango said Khumalo murdered a man in Hercules earlier this year after he was caught stealing.

“On 11 January this year, he stole a grinder, welding machine and drill worth R13 000 in Attie street, Hercules. A man saw Khumalo and confronted him. A struggle ensued whereby the victim was stabbed in the neck with a piece of metal. He was taken to hospital but died on arrival,” he said.
“Two days later, the accused stole a car battery and solar panel worth R900 at Gomorrah informal settlement.”
Msimango said Khumalo was arrested the same day and made a first appearance on 15 January 2017, whereby he was denied bail and remanded in custody until his day of conviction and sentence.

“The Hercules SAPS commended the investigating officer Captain Martin Smith for sterling work in bringing the accused to book and ensuring that justice was done.”
