
Police are following leads after a security guard was shot dead in the CBD at the weekend.
Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said the guard was shot near the corner of Bloed Street and Es’kia Mphahlele Drive on Saturday around 21:30.
“We are still following up leads given to us by witnesses who were present during the shooting,” said Zwane.
“It is believed that the guard was shot twice in the head by unknown assailants.”
He said the perpetrators fled the scene immediately and nothing was taken.

Zwane said the victim was rushed to the Tshwane district hospital but died on arrival.
He said police could not yet tell what led to the shooting.
“We are still investigating.”
“As soon as we apprehend the suspects, we will be able to shed some light on that.”

The victim was believed to be an employee of a Pretoria security company.
When Rekord contacted the company on Monday, a spokesperson said they were not aware of the shooting.
