Following the death of a Tshwane University of Technology student recently, Soshanguve police have warned students against walking alone at night.
Information technology student Mduduzi Mbuyazi (18) was stabbed to death near a passage in block L.
Soshanguve police spokesperson, Zanele Mtsweni, said Mbuyazi was apparently returning home from studying.
“He had three visible stab wounds. It is alleged that he screamed for help and a passerby came to his rescue. Paramedics were summoned and they declared him dead on the scene,” explained Mtsweni.
“A case of murder is still being investigated. No arrest has been made.”

The Soshanguve police are investigating the murder of another TUT student who was stabbed in block M, earlier this year.
Suspects have since appeared in court.
Mtsweni urged students to be responsible citizens and be cautious with regards to their safety.
She said students should avoid bushes and passageways at night.

She said criminals were aware that off-campus residences did not have proper security in place.
“This makes students targets of house robberies because landlords do not live in the same yard as their tenants,” said Mtsweni.
“We are working on a meeting with the landlords from blocks L, M and H regarding house and armed robberies. We want to find a solution on how to protect students that live in house residences.”
She advised students to rent secure places.
