A 48-year-old man was arrested in Hammanskraal for raping a 14-year-old girl whom he had locked up in a shack.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the man was arrested in New Eersterus on Wednesday, after residents alerted police.

“The mother of the child alleged she was called by her neighbour to the next door house where the neighbour had heard the teenage girl crying from inside the man’s shack,” said Moremi.
“Upon arrival she found the shack locked and her child was inside.”

The woman, with the help of residents, broke down the door to gain entry.
“The child said she had been locked up in the shack since Sunday.”

“She revealed that the suspect had raped her every single day until Wednesday, 13 September.”
Police were called to the scene and the man was arrested.

Moremi said no missing person’s report was opened during the teenager’s disappearance.
The man will appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of kidnap and rape.
