Two men accused of assaulting a 10-year-old girl appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Farmer Johannes Potgieter (33) and co-accused Hendrick Dumas (48) face charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, assault, and pointing a firearm.
They have denied all charges against them.
Their bail application was denied.
Prosecutor Solly Leballo argued it would be in the interest of public order to keep the pair in custody.

A petition signed by more than 100 people formed part of his argument against bail.
In her statement, the girl said she, her younger brother and two friends went for a jog with their dogs when the animals strayed.
“We were looking for the dogs and then suddenly we heard gun shots,” she said.
She said she was captured by one of the accused, who had what she described as a long gun.
The other three children escaped.

The girl said she was then tied to a tree, handcuffed, beaten and questioned.
The gun was at some point pointed at her head, she said.
Potgieter claimed the children were on his farm to hunt Springboks.
“We have experienced many incidents where people would come and hunt without permission,” he said.
The two men were expected to be back in court on 14 November.
