UPDATE: Prison escapees still on run

The police are calling on residents to bring any information on the escape to the police.

The hunt is still on for the four prison escapees believed to be hiding in Noweto.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the police we investigating new leads.

“They have not yet been rearrested but we know where they live and we have few leads that narrow our search.”

The four awaiting trial prisoners from Mabopane and Soshanguve escaped from police custody in Bela Bela on 10 September and were still at large.

Mojapelo had previously warned residents of Soshanguve and Mabopane to watch out for the escapees: Silence Dube (29) of Soshanguve, Philani Sithole (30) of Mabopane, Thabang Dube (30) Mabopane and Joshua Mogashoa.

“We would like to urge residents in those areas not to approach them as they may be armed,” Mojapelo said.

The four who faced charges of armed robbery broke out of prison ahead of their trial date in the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

He said the circumstances of their escape were still being investigated
