A crime awareness operation was conducted by the Tshwane central policing cluster last week.
Spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said three people were arrested over drug abuse in Brooklyn.
“All seven police precincts in the cluster were covered during this operation on Friday,” she said.
Another police spokesperson, Captain Molebe Ledwaba, encouraged residents to join their local CPF.
“Please be observant and do not talk to strangers. Children must be aware of their surroundings,” she said.

“Speaking on cellphones while walking in the street is a high crime generator.”
Brits said senior officer Colonel Terance Naidoo briefed all officers on the mission before the operation.
“He also motivated them to put in a real effort to combat crime in the areas,” Brits said.
She said the following safety tips should be followed on a daily basis:
When you leave your home:
– Make sure all your doors are locked when you leave your house.

– Make sure the gate closes behind you when you leave your premises.
– Make sure there are no strangers in the surrounding area. If so, contact the nearest police station for patrols.
– A full description of the person or persons will assist the police in the look-out.
Out in the street:
– Keep your handbag close to you.
– Carry your wallet somewhere it is not visible – not in your back pocket.
– Do not put your handbag on the counter in a shop and walk or turn away.
– Do not leave handbags or other possessions in a supermarket trolley.

– Stay away from deserted or dark areas.
– As far as possible, leave valuable possessions at home.
– If you are attacked or robbed, do not offer resistance or look at the person – your life is worth more than money.
– Do not walk or wait for a lift on the highway.
Vehicle safety:
– Make sure your vehicle is locked by hand. Jamming devices are used on a daily basis.
– Make sure you leave your valuables in the boot.
– Do not leave firearms in the vehicle because this is against the Firearm Act.

– Do not drive around with your handbag or electronic devices on the passenger seat.
– Make sure your doors are locked and, if possible, close all windows.
– Make sure all valuables are out of eyesight of roaming suspects.
“It is very important for the public to work hand in hand with the police to prevent crime,” she said.
The Tshwane central cluster comprises the police precincts of Brooklyn, Eersterust, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Pretoria Moot, Silverton, Sunnyside and Villeria.
