A former police officer appeared in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court in Hammanskraal on Monday for culpable homicide.
The former officer allegedly recently ran over a pensioner, instantly killing her.
Police spokesperson, Constable Herman Moremi said Collen Molefi, believed to be in his 50s, was allegedly driving drunk at a high speed when he allegedly ran over the old woman.
The suspect was remanded in custody and would appear in court again on 3 October.
Anna Tjiane (64) was apparently crossing the road near Shell Garage in Temba when a BMW ran her over.

Paramedics were contacted and she was certified dead on the scene.
According to the police, Molefi allegedly sped off after the accident but later returned and acknowledged he had hit Tjiane unintetionally.
Molefi took early retirement from the SAPS and had been stationed at the same Hammanskraal court he was now appearing before.
Moremi said Tjiane was lying in the middle of the road when the police arrived.
“It is alleged the woman was crossing the road on the way home when the drunken driver hit her and never noticed that he knocked down a person.”

Molefi allegedly told the police that his passenger had alerted him that he had knocked down a pedestrian hence he returned to the scene.
Molefi was arrested and faces charges of culpable homicide, drunken driving and reckless and negligent driving.
