Quick response by the metro police and sector policing resulted in the arrest of steel thieves in the west of Pretoria recently.
CPF sector 2 member, Sonja Theron, said the arrest occurred at a power station on the corner of Quagga Road and Charlotte Maxeke Street.
“I received a call from a resident on Sunday informing me about two men attempting to steal steel,” she said.
“Myself, a friend and my son immediately went to the power station where I saw a man walking with a trolley filled with steel.”
She said they followed the man to a scrap metal shop.
According to Theron, the shop in Charlotte Maxeke Street was open 24 hours.

“While we followed the man we came across the metro police. We immediately asked them for help,” she said.
“The metro police immediately gave us their assistance and followed us.”
Theron said the man and the owner of the shop were arrested.
She thanked the metro police for their assistance.
“Their performance was truly outstanding. Our team work resulted in the arrest,” she said.
Theron said steel theft was of great concern in the area.

She warned residents and shop owners against buying stolen steel.
“If residents see someone pushing steel in a trolley or if they suspect someone of stealing steel, they should report it at their nearest police station,” she said.
