The seven men arrested in connection with the poisoning of dogs and theft of motorbikes in Centurion have been released as they could not be linked to the cases.
Wierdabrug police spokesperson, Captain Agnes Huma, said the men appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court but there was no evidence to link them to the reported cases.
The seven men, aged between 25 and 35, were arrested last month by the Wierdabrug police on suspicion of the spree of dog killings.
Huma said at the time that police had a “hunch” that the men may be linked to the thefts of motorbikes in Centurion.

“The suspects would drive around during the day and check where motorbikes were parked in visible areas and at night they would return and poison the dogs to be able to steal the bikes,” said Huma.
Recently, allegations surfaced that these men were sent on their way with a “warning” by the Wierdabrug police.
Residents in Centurion concerned about crime spoke to Rekord anonymously – asking why the suspects were let go with warnings.
Huma said on Thursday the seven men were “warned” to appear in court on 17 August.

“When they appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court they were released as they could not be linked to the cases of dog poisoning and theft of motorbikes,” said Huma.
She said the term “warning” was an official form used by the police to the public or suspects to appear in court.
