A video circulating on social media shows how a car was stolen at the Centurion Mall on Saturday.
Piren Myburgh (21) said her friend used the car, a blue City Golf, on Saturday morning to go to work.
“Around 12:00 midday, she was on her way to the car and discovered it had been stolen,” Myburgh said.

She said video footage in her possession shows the thieves committing the crime.
One of the video clips in Rekord’s possession shows how the two cars are exiting the Centurion Mall area, quickly driving through the boom gate.

“I’ve spoken to one of the security officers who said that they often see how people would tailgate another car at the boom gate if they do not want to pay for their parking tickets,” said Myburgh.
The footage shows a grey Hyundai car opening both passenger doors at the left, keeping it open for a couple of minutes and then close the doors again.
Seconds later, a man got out and climbed into the Citi Gold and drove away with Myburgh’s car.

Another video clip shows the vehicles driving through the boom gate.
Lt-Col. Alida Esterhuizen at the Lyttelton police confirmed that the car had been stolen.
“Police are currently investing the case,” said Esterhuizen.

An enquiry has been sent to the Centurion mall management, but comment had not been received by the time of going to print.
Centurion Mall spokesperson Jaclyn Lovell said: “We can confirm the incident where a car was stolen from the mall premises. SAPS are currently investigating the theft and are the appropriate authority to provide details on the case.”
