UPDATE: Missing woman’s family points finger at husband

LISTEN: The husband, Hector Ndou denied any knowledge of his wife’s whereabouts.

The family of a missing Soshanguve woman have called on police to interrogate the woman’s husband.

The family of Murendeni Mutoti (32) said this week they believe her husband had not told the police the truth about her disappearance.

The mother of two – Ndivhuoo (7) and Avhaphane (5) – has been missing since 3 June.

A few days after her disappearance, her husband Hector Ndou went to the Akasia police to report her missing.

On hearing about her disappearance, her family travelled from Venda to Soshanguve to fetch the children.

Mutoti’s sister, Unarine Mutoti, told Rekord this week that Ndivhuoo had told the family that her parents had had a fight at their Nkandla informal settlement, near Soshanguve, on the day of her disappearance.

“She told us her father beat up her mother with a waterpas [bubble level],” explained Unarine.

According to the child, he struck her several times until she was bleeding and lost consciousness.

“He took her to bed and poured water over her, but she never got up,” she said. “That was the last time the kids had seen their mother.”

Unarine said the family took the child’s recorded account of what happened to the police as evidence.

The police, however, refused to consider the child’s testimony.

The family said there had been no activity on her cell phone since the day of her disappearance.

Unarine said the family believed Ndou might be able to shed more light on Mutoti’s disappearance if questioned.

Ndou denied any foul play and said what he had heard was that his wife has left with another man.

He said she was carrying her ID and social grant card, wearing blue jeans, white tekkies and a black and white t-shirt.

Akasia police spokesperson Constable Matsobane Mabusela confirmed that a missing person case was being investigated

He, however, denied any knowledge of the police refusing to follow up on the family’s information.

Ndou said he was surprised by the accusations from his wife’s family.

He said he approached Sassa and was told that his wife’s social grant card had been used to make withdrawals.

“The most painful thing is we do not know who has her cards and who is withdrawing the money,” he said.

“All ATMs have cameras. We do not know why the police have not been able to make a breakthrough on the case or tell us that she is still alive.”

Anyone who might know of the whereabouts of the missing woman is asked to contact the nearest police or call Crime Stop on 08600-10-111.
