Unlicensed liquor outlets were shut down and cases of their stock seized during a weekend raid in Soshanguve.
Rietgat police’s illegal liquor and second-hand goods unit conducted the raid on Friday and Saturday, said station commander Colonel Dikeledi Hlatshwayo.
The operation formed part of a war against the illegal trade of alcohol and second-hand goods around the Rietgat policing precinct.
Ten people were arrested in Operation Tornado which aimed at getting rid of unlicensed liquor outlets and unlicensed second-hand goods dealers.
“The station seized over 20 crates of beer from illegal outlets at the weekend,” said Hlatshwayo.

She warned illegal traders to shut down or face the full might of the law.
“It is not going to be business as usual for illegal dealers,” she said.
“We are going to close down every unlicensed liquor outlet and any illegal business dealing in second-hand goods in our precinct. Its high time chancers feel the wrath of the law.”
She said the operation would continue sporadically in Soshanguve and whoever found in the wrong side of the law would be brought to book.
The arrested people were to appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court soon.
