A depressing picture on crime in the north of Pretoria emerged on Tuesday from the latest national crime statistics.
Violent crimes, such as murder and rape, showed an increase in virtually all areas.
Slim consolation was a drop in one crime category in at least one precinct.

The national figures for the 12 months ending on 31 March this year were released by Police Minister Fikile Mbalula.
Here is a breakdown of crimes per police station in the north of Pretoria:
Residents in the Pretoria North precinct may sleep a bit easier. For them, assault with intent to do bodily harm dropped with 32.9 percent.
Soshanguve, on the other hand, is experiencing a surge in sexual offences crimes.
These increased by nine percent.
There was also a 13 percent increase in hijackings and residential crimes stand by 52.8 percent.

Hammanskraal is the worst-hit area in the north. Murder (30 percent), rape (48.4 percent) and hijackings (133.3 percent) have all increased.
Kameeldrift reported 116 cases of common assault cases in the year in question.
This rose to a reported 124 cases this year. Rape cases increased by a staggering 233.3 percent while burglaries rose by only 0.7 percent.
Aggravated robbery cases in Loate have increased by 8.5 percent. Property-related crimes (burglaries, stock theft, thefts, etc.) are also up in the area by 19.2 percent.
Rietgat clearly has an illegal firearms and ammunition problem.
Such offences rose by 13 percent, while drug-related crimes rose by 8.5 percent.
Arson is a problem in Temba where there has been a reported 37.5-percent increase in such cases.
Murders increased by 18.9 percent. Contact crimes (murder, attempted murder, common assault. etc.) in the area have dropped by 5.2 percent.
Sexual offences in Mabopane have risen by 8.3 percent. The area has also experienced a 300-percent rise in stock theft.
Drug-related crimes have decreased 16.7 percent. Attempted sexual offences in the area rose by a single one in the year in question.
Akasia has seen a rise in murders (52 percent) and attempted murder (123.3 percent).
Residential crimes (such as burglaries) have seen a dramatic 20.5-percent increase.
Sinoville has experienced a decrease in murder by 33.3 percent, but has reported a 50-percent rise in hijackings. This is coupled with contact crimes going up by 16.3 percent.
