Villiera police have issued safety tips for motorists to safeguard their vehicles.
This comes after police apprehended two suspects in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a car remote jamming device in Villieria.
The duo was spotted in a car last Thursday after raising the suspicions of the Kilnerpark Security guards.
“A hot pursuit took place from the Pretoria Moot area through to Villieria where also the air wing got involved,” said police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits.
Below are the police’s safety tips:
– Avoid parking your vehicle where there are no security officers guarding.
– Do not leave your firearm in the vehicle’s glove compartment (cubbyhole) or anywhere in the vehicle. It is against the law.
– Make sure that all doors and windows are properly locked when you park your car.

– Put valuables such as laptops and cameras in the boot.
– Beware helpful strangers telling you you have a “flat tyre”. It could be that they want to steal items from your car.
– Always close your windows when driving in the city centre, and do not open them for hawkers.
– Keep your car doors locked at all times.
– Do not use a cellular phone while driving unless you have a hands-free kit.
– At night, park in a well-lit area.

– If in doubt about the safety of an area, phone a police station for advice.
– Do not leave your keys in the ignition.
– Remove the detachable radio or radio face when getting out of your car.
– If possible install an alarm and/or anti-theft device in your car.
– Have your keys ready in your hand as you approach your car, especially if they are difficult to find in your handbag.
