A school patroller was arrested in Soshanguve on Tuesday for possession unlicensed ammunition and stolen equipment.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said the 26-year-old patroller at Kgomotso Comprehensive High School was arrested by Rietgat police when he was found in possession of four live R5 rifle rounds and stolen computer equipment.
“He was tracked to his shack in block SS following a tip-off by a community member. Computer keyboards, central processing unit (CPU), hard drives and computer cables were seized,” said Maluleka.
According to information received by the police, more than 20 computers valued around R100 000 were stolen from Kgomotso school about three months ago.
The man would appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court soon.

Last Friday, a Hammanskraal school choir conductor was arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl learner.
Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said the school had terminated its relationship with the conductor with immediate effect.
“Counselling was offered to the affected learner and will continue accordingly,” said Lesufi.
He said the victim had been placed in another school and was being supported with relevant study material.
“Police are still looking for the suspect. The investigation will also look into allegations that the perpetrator allegedly raped two other learners at the same school,” he said.

“It is alleged the patroller accosted a grade 10 learner and her cousin, forced them into a shack where he raped her,” he said.
The Bronkhorstspruit police were investigating. Lesufi said he had instructed this school to terminate the patroller’s services with immediate effect.
“This victim has also been placed in another school and would be given all the necessary support,” he said.
