Two arrested for possession of unlicensed ammunition

Two suspects aged between 20 and 30 for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Sibande Avenue in Mamelodi West came to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon during a police chase in which two suspects were arrested.

The drama unfolded in front of Jafta Mahlangu Secondary School.

Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said the police arrested the two suspects aged between 20 and 30 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The police were alerted by a person who had recently been robbed that the suspects were driving a white Hyundai,” said Maheso.

The police patrolling the area spotted the car, gave chase and cornered them in Sibande Street next to the school.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene while two other men who were with them jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

A firearm, 9mm magazine and two live rounds were found in possession of those arrested. They will appear in court soon.

The police asked for people with information about the two men who fled to contact 08600 10111.
