An early morning shootout ensued in Centurion on Thursday which culminated in the arrest of three suspects, all of whom were wounded by police fire.
About four other suspects are believed to be at large and police are pursuing them.
Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the shootout between metro police and the armed men started at around 04:00 on Thursday morning after a car was stolen in Pretoria North.

Miller said Tracker assisted police in tracing the white VW Polo to Pretoria West.
“When Tracker and the metro police arrived at the location, the suspects were already busy stripping the vehicle.”
Miller said the suspects then fled in a white VW Golf GTi.
He said the metro police pursued them in a high-speed chase and the suspects started to open fire on the law enforcers.
“The members then returned fire and near the intersection of Trichardt and Selbourne avenues the suspects lost control over their vehicle and crashed,” said Miller.

The community social media platform, People Who Live in Centurion (PWLIC), posted an entry asking members of the community to switch on their lights to help police in their search.
“One suspect was arrested in the vehicle and two others in the area by metro police and the Pretoria Central police.”
Miller said of the three suspects arrested, one was critical and two were seriously wounded in the crossfire. They were taken to a hospital under police guard.
A case of attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property and car-breaking implements, and possession of unlicensed firearm will be investigated.
“We would like to thank community members who assisted the police,” said Miller.
